Iran and US exchange strikes amid Strait of Hormuz tensions

Iran and the US exchanged military strikes, with Iran targeting US facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain, and the US hitting Iranian targets. Tehran claims control of the Strait of Hormuz and threatens to exit peace talks.

Following earlier US strikes, Iran launched drone and missile attacks on US military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain on June 27. Bahrain and Kuwait later confirmed their territories were hit, with Bahrain reporting intercepted projectiles and damage to a residential building. In response to an attack on a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, the US Central Command announced further strikes on Iranian targets the same day. Amidst these exchanges, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated Tehran had re-established "full control over shipping in the Strait of Hormuz for the next 30 days," cautioning against bypassing Iranian-approved routes. Iran also threatened to exit peace negotiations if US bombardments persisted.
