The European Union is poised to launch accession talks with Ukraine and Moldova on June 15, opening the initial "Foundations" cluster covering rule of law and public administration. This was affirmed by the Cypriot Presidency of the EU Council. Meanwhile, the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine confirmed May 2026 recorded the highest civilian casualties in the country in four years, attributing the rise to Russian aggression.
