Regional tensions escalate with new US-Iran threats, strikes in Afghanistan and Lebanon

Regional tensions persist, with US President Donald Trump and Iranian officials exchanging further threats. Trump accused Iran of shooting down a US helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz, from which two crew members were rescued, and vowed a response. He also stated Iran had taken "too long to negotiate a deal" and would "pay the price," while Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated his country would "leave" if conditions were not met.

Concurrently, Pakistan conducted new air strikes in Afghanistan, reporting 26 militant deaths. However, the Taliban government claimed 13 fatalities, including 11 children, in three provinces. Israeli forces also carried out strikes across southern Lebanon, including Tyre, resulting in eight deaths and new evacuation orders, despite an Iranian warning. Analysts suggest the region risks a "permacrisis" as Iran has proven resilient, contrary to expectations.
