Fires in Antwerp and northern Greece result in deaths and injuries

A fatal apartment fire in Antwerp, Belgium, and an ongoing deadly wildfire in northern Greece have resulted in multiple casualties and evacuations, with firefighters continuing to battle the Greek blaze.

Multiple fatalities and injuries have been reported following a fire at a 10-storey apartment building in Antwerp, Belgium. The blaze, which began before 10:00 (08:00 GMT) on Wednesday, caused thick smoke to billow from the eighth floor of the Linkeroever district structure. Separately, in northern Greece, firefighters continue to battle an uncontrolled wildfire near Thessaloniki. The fire has already claimed one life, with a man's body discovered in a charred area near Liti. A woman also sustained burn injuries while reportedly attempting to extinguish the flames, and residents of a nearby village were evacuated as the blaze spread.
