EU unveils 21st sanctions package, diplomatic efforts continue amid Kharkiv shelling

The EU has unveiled its 21st sanctions package against Russia, with leaders asserting their effectiveness. Nordic and Baltic states support Ukraine's NATO/EU bid, while diplomatic efforts for direct talks continue.
The European Commission has presented its 21st package of sanctions against Russia, with President Ursula von der Leyen affirming that "Our sanctions are working." Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas reinforced this view, stating that the measures are "brick by brick" collapsing Russia's war economy foundations. Meanwhile, Nordic and Baltic nations continue to advocate for Ukraine's eventual membership in NATO and the EU. On the ground, Russian bombardments in the Kharkiv region resulted in at least four fatalities and several injuries. Diplomatically, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom have endorsed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's call for direct talks between Kyiv and Moscow, proposing the current line of contact as a starting point.
