EU special representative discusses protection, citizenship, and medical access for Ukrainians

EU Special Representative Ylva Johansson discussed temporary protection for Ukrainians, including restrictions for conscription-eligible men, the potential for EU citizenship, and medical access in Poland.
EU Special Representative for Ukrainians, Ylva Johansson, has expressed support for aligning temporary protection legislation with Ukraine's military obligations, stating she is "proud" of the current implementation and believes it "should have been done earlier." In an interview, Johansson addressed concerns about potential human rights implications of limiting protection for conscription-eligible men. She also discussed the possibility of extending temporary protection beyond 2028. Furthermore, Johansson stated that Ukrainians acquiring EU citizenship does not necessarily constitute a "brain drain" for Ukraine. She also raised the issue of vulnerable Ukrainians' access to medical care with Polish officials. Sources: Радіо Свобода
