United States forces conducted strikes on Iranian military facilities on June 26, targeting missile and drone storage, and coastal radar stations. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed these actions were a decisive response to an earlier attack on a merchant vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. US Vice President J.D. Vance reiterated that "violence will be met with violence" following the strikes. President Donald Trump had previously accused Tehran of violating a ceasefire agreement. Separately, on June 27, a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz sustained damage from an "unidentified projectile," with its bridge affected but crew reported safe by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
