US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed it initiated retaliatory strikes against Iran following former President Donald Trump's assertion that Iranian forces shot down a US Apache helicopter. Trump stated on Truth Social that he was informed by the military of the incident, which occurred overnight during a patrol over the Strait of Hormuz, and indicated the United States "will certainly have to respond to this attack." CENTCOM later specified that its forces targeted Iranian air defense systems and ground control stations. In response to the US actions, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have launched drones and missiles aimed at American facilities in the region. The two pilots aboard the Apache helicopter were reported unharmed.

Tensions in the Middle East have escalated following reports of an American helicopter being downed by Iran over the Strait of Hormuz, prompting former US President Donald Trump to promise "retaliation." Concurrently, the US military announced it had carried out a series of "self-defense" strikes against Iran. Amidst these developments, Iran proposed a conditional cessation of its strikes, contingent on Israel halting operations in southern Lebanon. However, Israel rejected these terms, with its Defense Minister asserting the country "will continue to act" against Hezbollah. The Israeli army chief of staff further stated readiness "to return and deal a new heavy blow to Iran." Earlier, Israeli military actions in southern Lebanon reportedly caused 14 fatalities, including at least eight deaths and 32 injuries in Tyre. Sources: Le Monde
