
Ukraine reports drone strike on Chornobyl nuclear waste facility

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Russian forces conducted a drone strike on a building within the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. A Shahed-type drone reportedly impacted the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility (CSNFSF), causing significant damage to its fuel reception building, including the facade, windows, and doors, with adjacent structures also affected. Following the incident, President Zelenskyy and Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha called for an international reaction to the attack. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) acknowledged receiving details from Ukraine regarding the drone strike and announced that its experts would visit the damaged facility on June 7 to assess the situation.
