US nuclear-powered submarines to deploy in Australia this year

The United States Navy is set to deploy several nuclear-powered submarines to a strategic Australian naval port on the west coast this year, Australia's Defence Minister announced. This initial deployment forms part of the AUKUS security pact involving Australia, the US, and the United Kingdom. Further, from 2027, four US-commanded submarines are scheduled to operate rotationally from the same Australian port. This initiative aims to bolster military cooperation and strengthen presence in the Indo-Pacific region, marking a significant step in the trilateral defence agreement.
