US envoys meet Qatari mediators after Iran peace agreement

Following the peace agreement reached on June 17 between the United States, Israel, and the Islamic Republic of Iran, American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Qatari mediators in Doha on June 30. These discussions focused on regional matters, including ongoing negotiations with Iran. The conflict, which began in June 2025 and escalated on February 28, 2026, saw a reported rise in resistance from Iranian civil society against the Islamic Republic. Concurrently, the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on February 28 reportedly cleared the way for Iran's security apparatus to engage in talks with the US.
