Ukrainian MPs propose making mathematics optional in national test

Ukrainian MPs have introduced a bill to make mathematics an optional subject in the National Multisubject Test (NMT), sparking criticism. People's Deputy Natalia Pipa linked supporters of the bill to past attempts to liquidate anti-corruption bodies.

A new legislative proposal has been introduced by Ukrainian Members of Parliament, aiming to modify the structure of the National Multisubject Test (NMT). The draft law suggests reducing the number of compulsory subjects, specifically proposing to make mathematics an elective rather than a mandatory component of the examination. This initiative has quickly generated controversy, drawing criticism across social media platforms and within political spheres. People's Deputy Natalia Pipa voiced strong opposition to the bill, asserting that MPs supporting the removal of mathematics from the mandatory list had previously voted in favor of liquidating the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP).
