Ukrainian courts address corruption, influence peddling, and fatal accident cases

Ukrainian courts have recently extended the detention of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi's mayor, imposed pre-trial measures on a Kharkiv deputy and a suspect in a 170 million UAH embezzlement case, and heard an apology from an ex-policeman accused in a fatal accident.

Recent court proceedings across Ukraine have seen various pre-trial measures imposed and cases advanced. In Odesa region, the mayor of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, Vitaliy Hrazhdan, had his pre-trial detention extended by 60 days, remaining in custody until July 30, 2026, with a bail option of nearly 10 million UAH. Meanwhile, a Kharkiv city council deputy from the banned "Shariy Party" was placed in pre-trial detention with a bail alternative of 266,240 UAH, facing suspicion of influence peddling and illegal border crossing. The High Anti-Corruption Court also imposed a pre-trial measure on an individual suspected of orchestrating a 170 million UAH embezzlement scheme during the construction of the Tashlyk HPP in Mykolaiv region. Separately, an ex-policeman accused in a fatal car accident in Karlivka, Poltava region, which resulted in the deaths of two sisters, offered an apology to the victims' family during his final statement.
