Ukraine sees developments in refugee status, illegal exports, and military honors

European ministers debated temporary protection for Ukrainian men, while an illegal exit scheme was uncovered in Lviv. A Swedish court arrested a vessel for alleged illegal exports, and President Zelensky signed a law on military honors.
European interior ministers recently debated potential restrictions on temporary protection for Ukrainian men of conscription age, with Germany, Sweden, and Poland supporting the measure while Estonia and Luxembourg opposed it. This discussion occurred during EU meetings on the future legal status of Ukrainian refugees. Concurrently, Ukrainian law enforcement in Lviv detained a former deputy and his son for operating a scheme that charged $15,000 to illegally transport conscription-eligible men out of the country. In a separate development, a Swedish court arrested the vessel Caffa, marking the first time an international court has acted on a Ukrainian request regarding the alleged illegal export of goods from occupied territories. Furthermore, President Zelensky signed a law on June 4, formalizing military honors for Ukrainian soldiers declared deceased by a court.
