Two powerful earthquakes hit Venezuela, killing dozens

Two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela on June 24, resulting in at least 32 fatalities and 700 injuries, according to Acting President Delcy Rodríguez. The U.S. Geological Survey reported magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 for the tremors. The seismic activity caused significant building damage in the capital, Caracas, and led to the closure of the country's main airport. Ms. Rodríguez declared a state of emergency nationwide, noting that the reported casualty figures did not include victims from La Guaira state, located near Caracas, which was also heavily impacted. Rescue efforts are underway across affected regions.
