San Francisco archdiocese to pay $395 million in abuse settlement

The Archdiocese of San Francisco announced on Monday, June 29, a $395 million settlement agreement with over 500 individuals who experienced child sexual abuse by clergy members. This resolution aims to conclude numerous lawsuits stemming from abuses, some of which occurred decades ago. Previously, these cases were often time-barred until California enacted legislation providing a window for victims to pursue legal action. The settlement will compensate approximately 530 victims who were minors at the time of the sexual violence, bringing an end to ongoing legal proceedings against the archdiocese.
