Iran has characterized recent American airstrikes on its territory as a "flagrant violation" of a framework agreement with the United States intended to de-escalate regional conflict. This condemnation follows the signing of a US-mediated framework agreement in Washington on June 26 between Israel and Lebanon, which US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described as a "first step" towards lasting peace. Despite these diplomatic efforts, Israeli forces continue military operations in Lebanon, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserting troops will remain in the South Lebanon security zone "as long as necessary." An Israeli government spokesperson further clarified that withdrawal is contingent on the disarmament of the Iran-backed Hezbollah group. Separately, France and Italy announced plans on June 25 to establish a multinational coalition to support Lebanese sovereignty after the UNIFIL mandate concludes in December.
