Father of killed Ukrainian writer dies; serviceman honoured in Poltava

Volodymyr Vakulenko Senior, father of the children's writer Volodymyr Vakulenko who was abducted and killed by Russian forces during the occupation of Kharkiv region, died on June 2. Director Amanda Bailey reported that Mr. Vakulenko Senior had not recovered from his son's death, with grief reportedly contributing to his decline. Separately, a farewell ceremony took place on June 4 in Poltava for 42-year-old Ukrainian serviceman Dmitro Zavyalov. The service was held at the Holy Dormition Cathedral, and Zavyalov is to be buried in the village of Butskivka, according to local military officials.
