China mediates between Pakistan and Taliban amid investment concerns

China has intensified diplomatic efforts to encourage dialogue between Pakistan and the Taliban-led Afghan administration. This push comes as Beijing seeks to address growing instability in Afghanistan, which poses a risk to its substantial, multi-billion dollar investments in Pakistan. China's special representative for Afghanistan, Yue Xiaoyong, recently visited Kabul, Doha, and Islamabad. These visits aimed to advance discussions between Pakistani and Taliban representatives, which reportedly commenced in Urumqi, the capital of China's Xinjiang region. Beijing's mediation efforts are driven by a desire to resolve disputes between Islamabad and the Afghan Taliban, thereby safeguarding its considerable regional economic interests and promoting stability.
