Burkina Faso severs diplomatic ties with France

Burkina Faso's military government officially ended diplomatic relations with France on June 26, citing "incessant activism" and "neo-colonial ambitions" against its national interests. This decision, effective immediately, follows years of escalating tensions between the two nations. The government, led by Captain Ibrahim Traoré, announced the rupture after the European Parliament adopted a resolution critical of the Burkinabe junta. Paris has gradually reduced its military and diplomatic presence in the Sahel region amid growing anti-French sentiment and a series of coups.
