Armenian electoral commission rejects bid to disqualify opposition bloc

Armenia's Central Electoral Commission has rejected a petition to remove the opposition 'Strong Armenia' bloc from Sunday's parliamentary elections, despite allegations of voter bribery and ties to Moscow by the pro-European 'Republic' party.

Armenia's Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has rejected a petition to remove the opposition 'Strong Armenia' bloc from the parliamentary elections scheduled for Sunday. The decision was announced on Saturday, just one day before the nationwide vote. The pro-European 'Republic' party had formally requested the disqualification, citing allegations of voter bribery against 'Strong Armenia'. Furthermore, the 'Republic' party and other opponents have characterized the 'Strong Armenia' bloc as having connections to Moscow. Despite these claims, the CEC's ruling ensures the bloc will remain on the ballot for the snap elections. Sources: Radio Svoboda.
